Student Stakes: The New World of Sports Betting

Sports gambling has become a pervasive aspect of American culture, and Kansas State University is no exception. With the legalization of sports betting in Kansas, the accessibility of this activity has increased, leading to a potential impact on the campus community. As a result, exploring the prevalence, attitudes, and potential consequences of sports gambling among K-State students is crucial. This capstone project aims to investigate these issues and provide insights into the complex relationship between sports gambling and the university environment.
In the US, the growth and popularity of the new sports betting phenomenon is all but doubt; it is now common among young people, especially those in colleges. The issue surrounding sports betting will be the basis of this research, with a particular focus on the case of Kansas State University, exploring to what extent this practice influences students and the institutional setting itself. Presently, there is an expanding and mainstream practice, which is the legalization of sports betting in the country involving Kansas, and hence, the previous underground location for betting activities has moved into various public places without fear of victimization. This attitudinal switch has made sports betting very appealing to the young population, especially students who have just left their homes and are just about to learn about life and the many possibilities that come with it, including betting on the winners of different sports.
